Pulteney 1990 24 YO Single Cask, 53,7 %

pulteney_1990_24yoIt has been a while since last I reviewed a single cask release from independent bottler Cadenhead. Therefore I shall today present to you a very fine release, namely the Pulteney 1990 24 YO Single Cask. This whisky was distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2015. It has been matured in a bourbon barrel, and the outturn was 198 bottles.

The Pulteney 1990 24 YO Single Cask was available to buy in Norway up until recently at NOK 2450 (2227301), but it is now sold out. In fact it looks as if this bottling is sold out everywhere. Too bad...

Nose (23/25): Vanilla, green apples, and hints of salt. It has a deep, warm and oily sweetness to it. Very...robust. After a few minutes it opens up a bit more and I get more fresh fruit, more maritime notes and a light touch of oak and herbs. Given even more time I also get cut grass, hay and tomato plant. Lovely stuff!

Taste (23/25): Oily and rich mouthfeel. Fizzy and fun! Vanilla, camphor, white pepper, honey, green apples and a touch of salt. Crisp and clean!

Finish (22/25): Warm and long finish. Very happy that it stays with me for such a long time. The spices stay the longest, and they become a bit wood-y towards the end.

Balance (23/25): This is a stunning dram. Happy, happy, happy to have an almost full bottle on the shelf.

Score (91/100)
