North British 1988 28 YO Select Grain - Limited Release, 46 %

North British 1988 28 YO Select Grain - Limited ReleaseThis is a single grain whisky released by independent bottler Murray McDavid. The North British 1988 28 YO Select Grain - Limited Release was bottled this summer. It has been matured in bourbon hogsheads, then given a finish in 1st fill Koval rye casks (cask #6008969 & 6018969). Koval being an exciting Chicago-based distillery.

A few bottles of the North British 1988 28 YO Select Grain - Limited Release will be available to buy in Norway from December 15 at NOK 1299 (8111701). It is also available online at around GBP 72.

Nose: Classic candy store single grain. Tons of vanilla and marshmallows. It also has a darker dimension - adding some complexity. Could it be the rye cask that comes into play? There's some added spices, pepper foremost, and an oaky and deep sweetness.

Taste: Rich and creamy in character. Rum cake and vanilla ice-cream. Faint notes of rye or bourbon. Light citrus aromas.

Finish: Medium long finish. Much the same as initially. Fizzy. Ginger. Fluffy lemon meringue topping.

Comments: I really enjoy single grain whisky of this style and caliber.

Score (88/100)
