Braunstein 11:1

Braunstein 11:1

It is about time we had another whisky from Danish distillery Braunstein here. The Braunstein 11:1 is an old expression, released in 2011 (hence the name). This whisky has been matured in Oloroso sherry casks. It was distilled in 2008 and bottled on April 1 2011, making it a 3 YO. A total of 1280 bottles were released of this limited edition.

The Braunstein 11:1 is still available to buy from the distillery at DKK 795.

Nose (22/25): Oak marinated in rich sherry with added white sugar and chocolate. In other words, a rather sweet initial impression. It is almost rum-like on the nose, but despite all the sweetness it is still quite light. White pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, dried fruits and hints of menthol.

Taste (21/25): Rich, sweet and spicy. Dried fruits that are no longer dry, but now dripping with thick and fruity honey. Pepper and notes of burnt toast. Chocolate and light fruity notes.

Finish (21/25): Charred oak, burnt toast, caramel (the dark and ominous kind...heh), and dried fruits. Medium length.

Balance (21/25): A fine sherry matured whisky.

Score (85/100)
