Nordic Whisky #142 - Braunstein 16:2

Nordic Whisky #142 - Braunstein 16:2

Time now for a new release from Danish distillery Braunstein. The Braunstein 16:2 was released late 2016, and limited to 1000 bottles.

This is a peated release in the Library Collection. It was made using peated malt with a phenolic level of 60 ppm. The whisky was matured in ex-bourbon casks, and then finished in rum casks.

You can buy a bottle of the Braunstein 16:2 directly from the distillery shop at DKK 795 here.

Nose: Warm and sweet, with a touch of the green (think grass and something a bit mint like). The peat is not by any means overpowering, if anything I would say it is fairly restrained and laid back. With time the deep sweetness (the rum casks?) comes more to the front. In addition there are fun, fruity and minty top notes - Polkagriser (Swedish stick candy).

Taste: Medium body. Rich caramel mixed with sweet, cool and minty rum notes. On second sip it has a an almost chewy character - which I like. Honey and vanilla. Again the peat is surprisingly tempered, but present.

Finish: Medium long finish. Caramel sweetness. Vanilla ice cream served with plums and a rich rum sauce.

Comments: Another hit from Braunstein.
