Lauder's Finest Scotch Whisky, NAS, 40 %

Lauder's Finest Scotch WhiskyI am ready try another fairly priced blended scotch today. Lauder's Finest Scotch Whisky does have me rather skeptical though.  They call their product 'finest', which really should not be necessary if it really is... The ABV is 40 %, and the whole presentation is - well, let's just say they did not pay top dollar for the packaging.

In Norway you can buy Lauder's Finest at NOK 300 (item number 5619101), and at Systembolaget it will cost you SEK 245 (item number 459).

Nose (19/25): The first thing that strikes me is the distinct malt and grain character. Other than that I find vanilla (doh!), mild hints of caramel, ginger and some honey.

Taste (18/25): Caramel, sugar, some smoke - I think. Actually, the sugar is burnt, that might be where the smoke comes from... I believe there are some herbs here as well. It doesn't really work all that well.

Finish (16/25): Nope, it does not work at all. It turns bitter and metallic. The burnt sugar is turning nasty, and it really dries up.

Balance (17/25): Not my glass of whisky, that's for sure. I think I will just leave it at that.

Score (70/100)
