Nose: Whoa! I can dig this. Cool dunnage warehouse, rhubarb, earthy wood smoke, vanilla, icing sugar, simple syrup, canned pears, lemon zest and fruit drops. After a few minutes the meatier side of Kilchoman creeps forth from the shadows, but it never enters center stage.
Taste: Full-bodied and relatively sweet – although it quickly takes on a rather dry note. Again rhubarb, and an earthy character. Briny and somewhat maritime.
Finish: Medium long finish. Pepper and dry ashes now. Grape juice and caramel sauce. Ginger. Perhaps a touch lighter and sweeter towards the end.
Comments: Port and peat! When it works, it really works. It’s not refined or complex, but it gives you a liquid bear hug and just makes you smile.
