Jura Seven Wood

I continue my exploration of the Jura Signature Series, the new core range of whiskies from the distillery located on the remote Isle of Jura. The Jura Seven Wood has been matured in seven different oak woods; 1st fill ex-bourbon American white oak and six types of French oak - Vosges, Bertranges, Jupilles, Allier, Tronçais, Limousin. There is no age statement on this expression.

I have previously reviewed the Jura Journey and Jura 10 YO, also part of the new Signature Series.

You can buy the Jura Seven Wood in Norway at NOK 750 (10328901), and in the UK at around GBP 59.

Nose: Rich oaky spices. It is like smelling sun warmed old oak in a spice market. I find vanilla, coconut oil, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, various notes of chocolate (white, milk and dark) as well as coffee. Traces of smoke in the background.

Taste: Rich and full-bodied. Spices are in the front on the palate as well. Pepper, ginger and cinnamon lead the way. Bitter orange marmalade, and a pinch of sea salt.

Finish: Medium long finish. Remains spicy throughout, landing softly with time.

Comments: Really nice experience. A delicate Jura dram.
