Glen Grant The Major's Reserve, 40 %

Glen Grant The Major's ReserveThe Glen Grant The Major's Reserve is an entry level whisky with no age statement from Glen Grant Distillery in Speyside. From what I gather it was released first time around 2010.

It is matured exclusively in bourbon casks, and that is about the only information on this whisky on the official website, except for the tasting notes.

You can buy the Glen Grant The Major's Reserve in Sweden at SEK 289 (56601), and in the UK at under GBP 25.

Nose (22/25): Apples - both ripe and baked, vanilla, and hints of citrus. Sweet and well-rounded. With time in the glass it has a very nice development. It becomes softer and more elegant, and I pick up more nutty notes.

Taste (19/25): Mild spices, vanilla and mild toffee. A bit fizzy mouthfeel with hints of ginger soda. Toasted oak, white pepper and warm sand.

Finish (19/25): Medium to short finish. Slightly burnt caramel, hints of maple syrup, bitter orange marmalade, and a bit oaky. A bit dry, but becomes more sweet towards the end. Buttered toast.

Balance (19/25): Very nice nose, but a touch too much bitter oak on the finish.

Score (79/100)
