Chichibu 2010 7 YO Dr Jekyll's Expression

Chichibu 2010 7 YO Dr Jekyll's Expression, 59.6 %

I first got to taste this whisky back in early February. This is a single cask release exclusive for the Oslo whisky bar Dr. Jekyll's Pub. They launched it at the Bergen Whisky & Beer festival. We were told back then that around half the cask would be kept by the bar, and the remaining half would go on sale at the monopoly stores. Then we all waited, and waited, and waited.. Finally it is here!

The Chichibu 2010 7 YO Dr Jekyll's Expression is the oldest Chichibu whisky I have tasted, and one of the oldest I have seen released. It was distilled in December 2010, matured in a sherry hogshead (cask# 2649), and bottled in December 2017. The total outturn was 286 bottles.

The Chichibu 2010 7 YO Dr Jekyll's Expression will be available to buy in Norway staring November 15 at NOK 3000 (10555101)

Nose: Calm, centered and balanced. Rich sweetness, red berries, hints of rowan berries. Figs, plums and mild notes of raisins. Caramel pudding. Delightful sherry notes.

Taste: Very rich and full-bodied. Sherry sweetness. Dried fruits and notes of black pepper.

Finish: Medium to long finish. The sweetness now has fruity, sugary top notes as well. The rich sherry notes remain throughout. Dark honey notes with a green tint. Hints of  lemongrass.

Comments: Utterly enjoyable!
