Nordic whisky #201 - Braunstein 16:1

It has been a while since last I reviewed a whisky from Danish distillery Braunstein. Well, I have now gotten my hands on a bottle of Braunstein 16:1. This whisky has been matured in bourbon casks. It is unpeated and released in a limited run of 1000 bottles at 50 cl.

You can buy the Braunstein 16:1 online directly from the distillery at DKK 795.

Nose: Exciting nose with dark chocolate, almost like chocolate malt. Warm spices - peppers and chilies, with a touch of ashes. Vanilla and caramel also, of course, but lingering in the back.

Taste: Rich and full-bodied. Almost wine-like in character now, wine with a dark edge. Hmm.. make that ice wine! Wine and honey notes dance and swirl on the tongue. Still a lot of dark chocolate - and a touch of toasted oak. Spicy - for sure.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Remains rich all the way. More honey like now; with notes of ripe, juicy, red apples - covered with sweet and heart-attack inducing caramel glazing.

Comments: Consistent high quality from Braunstein.
