It's been a while since I last wrote something for Whisky Saga, but when I heard that The Tasting Room here in Bergen had got their first official single cask bottling of The BenRiach I decided to pay them a visit and make some tasting notes.

Cask #3616 is a port hogshead finishing cask, and the yield was 250 bottles at 53,7% ABV. The spirit was distilled in 1995, and finally bottled in September of 2014. Of course, the colour is all natural, and it's non-chill filtered.

A few bottles of this release are available to buy in Norway at NOK 1350 (item number 1954101). You cannot buy this directly from the Vinmonopolet, you have to use this ordering form.

Nose (22/25): Fruity and oak-spicy. Sweet and warm, some honey. Dark fruits, like cherries, currants and plums. Apple pie, sweet baked apples, cinnamon and all-spice.

Taste (23/25): Quite sweet. Again dark fruits. Sweet tea, vanilla, oak and some herbs.

Finish (22/25): Long and warm. Spices growing stronger. Finishes fairly dry at the very end, the tannin of the oak coming in stronger.

Balance (22/25): A nice and warming dram. Maybe a bit sweet for some palates, but over all, a very successful single cask bottling.

Score (89/100)
