Arran 1999 10 YO Flying Peacock (for Juul's)Just a quick review today, as I am more busy than usual. This is an old Arran bottling for the great whisky shop Juul's in Copenhagen. The Arran 1999 10 YO Flying Peacock was distilled on 1999-09-28, matured in a single Amontillado sherry butt (cask #29), and bottled on 2009-10-21. The total outturn was 709 bottles.

According to whiskybase.com you can buy a bottle online still, at € 249.

Nose: More than a whiff of sulphur, and slightly acidic. With a bit of effort I do detect some fresh fruits, mostly citrus, and medium sweetness. With time I also pick up some nuttiness, and the unpleasant whiffs morph into more acceptable notes of dried fruits.

Taste: Relatively rich mouthfeel. Sharp! Acidic and very, very peppery. Bitter oranges, lots of orange peel, dry oak and nuts. Sticks in the back of the throat, actually. Cannot remember ever having experienced that with a single malt.

Finish: Nuts, watered down caramel and oak. Not all that pleasant. It seems too heavy-handed and unbalanced. What happened here?

Comments: I'm so sorry, dear, sweet Arran. This just did not work at all for me.
