Time now to have a look at a double matured bourbon from Woodford Reserve. The Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is described as followed on the official website:

"An innovative approach to twice-barreled bourbon creates the rich and colorful flavor of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Uniquely matured in separate, charred oak barrels – the second barrel deeply toasted before a light charring – extracts additional amounts of soft, sweet oak character."

You can pick up a bottle of the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked in Norway at NOK 700 (11194501), or in the UK at around GBP 49.

Nose: This is a dram that welcomes you with arms wide open. Very comforting and assured. Deep and rich notes of fudge, vanilla, toasted oak. I also find roasted almonds, marzipan and raisins that have been singed at the edges. After a time in the glass I pick up cinnamon sticks and deep, deep vanilla notes. Very nice!

Taste: Soft mouthfeel and medium body. Toasted oak again, mixed with caramel and sugar with bits of bitter chocolate.

Finish: Medium long finish. Caramel sauce and maple syrup on toast. Orchard fruits and toasted oak. Creamy mouthfeel now. Honey and dark chocolate right at the end.

Comments: I love the way the deep toasted oak notes come through. This might not be for everyone, but I found it very intriguing in a good way.
