Tomatin 1988 25 YO Limited Release Batch 1, 46 %

Tomatin 1988 25 YO Limited Release Batch 1In April 2014 Tomatin Distillery expanded their core range by adding this Tomatin 1988 25 YO. This whisky will be released in batches, this being batch 1. The first batch is limited to 2500 bottles. It is not made clear if the next batch will be a 25 YO vintage 1989, or a 26 YO vintage 1988. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The Tomatin 1988 25 YO has been matured in a combination of bourbon casks and port pipes, and it is an (almost) unpeated Highland whisky.

Available in Norway at NOK 1614 (item number 1696601), and in Sweden at SEK 1899 (item number 85872).

Nose (22/25): Light, sweet and fresh. Powdered sugar, strawberries, fruits - apples and some citrus.

Taste (21/25): Caramel, sweet dessert wine, honey and again some fruit. Quite light on the palate.

Finish (21/25): Richer now, and warmer. Buttered toast with runny honey. Long and relaxed finish.

Balance (22/25): I was positively surprised by this dram. Tomatin is a distillery I have not had much prior experience with, although that has changed this year. A distillery to follow in the years to come. I was very fond of their peated Cù Bòchan 1989, as well. They might very well be on to a great game plan at Tomatin.

Score (86/100)
