SMWS 4.191 A romp in the heather, 22 YO, 54,2 %

SMWS 4.191 A romp in the heatherTime for yet another whisky from Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS). This time I am enjoying the 4.191 A romp in the heather. This is a 22 year old Highland Park, matured in a refill bourbon hogshead. It was distilled 1991-05-31, and a total of 259 bottles were filled from this cask.

As always, I present here the tasting notes from SMWS, giving you the chance to compare my notes with theirs:

Big bursting carrot cake and buttered crumpet. Cedar wood and burning heather. Chunky meat, soy and black pepper. Hessian bags full of ash. Dark chocolate, mint and crispy seaweed. Smoked sausages and menthol cigarettes. A delightful romp in damp heather.

Nose (23/25): Cuddly, fluffy white clouds of peaty vanilla goodness. Rich aromas, tickling my nose. Baked apples, and heather honey.

Taste (22/25): Black and white pepper, dry peat smoke, dry ashes, mixed in with thin and runny honey. I also find vanilla and a hint of cinnamon here.

Finish (23/25): Rich and think, almost chewy. Ashes, gunpowder residue, barbequed meat and some sweetness in the form of cinnamon flavored honey. Smells like a cowboy cookout.

Balance (23/25): A lovely, old Highland Park that packs a fluffy punch. It's rough and cuddly at the same time. I loved it.

Score (91/100)
