SMWS 129.2 Humbugs in a horse's nose-bag, 4 YO, 61,6 %

129.2 Humbugs in a horse's nose-bagScotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) recently released the 129.2 Humbugs in a horse's nose-bag. This is their second barrel from the Islay distillery Kilchoman. This is a very young whisky, just four years old.

The whisky was distilled 2007-12-13 and bottled in 2012. It was matured in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel.

This is the product description from SMWS:

The feisty nose, has toasted barley, buttered crumpets, tea, pepper and ciabatta bread - with water, mint humbugs, baked apple and an unlit coal fire. The taste has definite "Wow!" factor - barley sugars, smoke, well-fired rolls and muesli in a horse's nose-bag.

Nose (23/25): Vanilla, rich peat smoke, ice-cream with chunky smoke infused caramel bits. Then, among all the lovely sweets, there's a distinct meaty note, like raw/uncooked hot dogs.

Taste (22/25): Rich, attacks across the whole palate, but in a good way. Sweet, meaty, sparkling and smoky.

Finish (22/25): It heats up, and becomes more smoky; it reminds me of smoking hot coals. There's chili and pepper corns here, and it burns, burns, burns - a dram of fire.

Balance (22/25): A fantastic, young Kilchoman. Wish I had a bottle of this magic potion.

Score (89/100)
