Mortlach 1987 26 YO Cask #3103 Adelphi Selection, 56,8 %

Mortlach 1987 26 YO Cask #3103 Adelphi SelectionThe Holiday Season is coming up, and I find that my taste in whisky is changing slightly. This time of the year I gravitate towards more peaty and sweet whiskies, or heavy and dessert like sherry matured whiskies. In other words, the time is right for a Mortlach 1987 26 YO Cask #3103 Adelphi Selection, as it fits very well into that second category. Adelphi, for those that do not know, is a rather exciting independent bottler with a huge selection of single cask releases.

This whisky was distilled in 1987, matured in a sherry hogshead (cask #3103), with an outturn of merely 200 bottles.

You can buy this whisky in Norway at NOK 1900 (item number 1725001). It is not available in Sweden at this time.

Nose (23/25): Rich, sherry loveliness - a delightful sherry nose. Really fine tuned! None of the slightly sulphury notes I sometimes find in Mortlach. Apples, oranges, caramel and almonds. I really like the mild nuttiness.

Taste (22/25): Rich and sweet. Dried fruits - raisins in particular, demerara sugar and simple syrup. A rich dessert whisky.

Finish (23/25): Waxy and oily mouthfeel. I now detect some oak notes and ginger. The finish is long and sweet. The sherry notes carry through all the way.

Balance (23/25): Wow! This is a really nice Mortlach. I am feeling a bit jolly now.

Score (91/100)
