Lord Elcho, NAS, 40 %

Lord ElchoWe have previously reviewed the older brother of today's whisky, the Lord Elcho 15 YO, and were left with a very positive impression. Time now then to test the no age statement (NAS) variant of Lord Elcho. This is a blended whisky, from independent bottler Wemyss Malts. The make-up is 60 % grain whisky and 40 % malt whisky. Wemyss Malts have setup a dedicated website for their Lord Elcho blends, and appear to promote them quite actively.

You can purchase Lord Elcho in Norway at NOK 439 (item number 1598001), and in Sweden at SEK 401 (item number 84630).

Nose (22/25): Caramel, light and mild fruitiness, nice maltiness. Fudge, butter, and banana. After a while in the glass I also pick up a bit of oak and something green (grass?).

Taste (20/25): Soft and a bit thin mouthfeel. Caramel, ginger, and cinnamon. A hint of fruit lingers in the background-

Finish (19/25): Light and a bit short. Caramel is the dominant taste towards the end. Oak and hints of cracked peanut shells.

Balance (20/25): A light everyday dram. I imagine this would go well in cocktails.

Score (81/100)
