This is the oldest release to date from Swedish company Smögen Distillery. The Smögen 8 YO cost SEK 855 in Sweden when it was launched for sale on 2019-05-09. It sold out the next day. Pretty impressive with an outturn of 1628 bottles (50 cl).

The Smögen 8 YO was distilled in March 2011, matured in four 1st fill French oak Sauternes barrique casks (casks #4&8-10/2011), and bottled in until April 2019.

Nose: Raw smoked sausages and equally raw smoked bacon. Lovely meatiness matched by rich peatiness and deep notes of fruit and dry hay.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Sooo rich, sooo spicy and sooo peaty. Yum yum! A deep and softly earthy sweetness mixed perfectly with the peat and smoke.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Continues as it started, and that is more than enough. Mint and green notes in the end.

Comment: An adolescent Smögen, really showing off the potential we have always known is there. Meaty, muscular and minty!

Score 91/100
