Old Pulteney 21 YO, 46 %

Old Pulteney 21 YOI have not tasted many whiskies from Old Pulteney, and I have no excuse for it. I guess it is time to address this matter. Today I am therefore tasting the Old Pulteney 21 YO. Old Pulteney is a Highland distillery, located on the north coast of Scotland, in the town of Wick.

Old Pulteney 21 YO can be bought at Vinmonopolet in Norway at NOK 1050 (item number 885501), and at Systembolaget in Sweden at SEK 1299 (item number 85144). It is quite rare to see a single malt Scotch that is more expensive in Sweden than in Norway!

Nose (23/25): Relatively light on the nose, but give it some time, and you will be rewarded. Candy! Maritime candy! Salty sweets! Fruity and fresh! A fun day at the harbor in a glass.

Taste (21/25): Caramel, fruit and a hint of salt. It is somewhat shy at first, does not quite live up to the promise of the awesome nose.

Finish (22/25): Medium long, with a smooth mouth feel. The fruit and caramel stay on, dancing intimately.

Balance (23/25): Lovely stuff! It all comes together after you have finished your dram and you start contemplating what it was that just hit you. Then you go back for another dram, and this one is even better. You then end up spending the evening in the company of this wondrous dram.

Score (89/100)
