This whisky makes up half of a pair that were released earlier this year by Nikka to celebrate “the 100th anniversary of Masataka & Rita’s marriage”. The other half of the pair is of course a matching Yoichi expression. The Masataka referred to above is Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru, and Rita was his Scottish wife Rita Cowan.

This expression is limited to 6450 bottles in total.

The Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Wood Finish will be available in Norway on Monday at NOK 2501 (12434801).

Nose: Richer and more earthy on the nose than the standard Miyagikyo Single Malt. Apples, cinnamon, pepper and vanilla. Very soft floral notes in the background.

Taste: Rich and creamy in character. Apples, apple pie and banana now. Light caramel notes and vanilla.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Hardly any spices on the finish. More fruity, sweet and mellow, well-rounded. Perhaps a bit dry and green in the end.

Comment: So complex and enjoyable.
