Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon

I am working my way through the products from Michter's, both rye an bourbon. Today I'm diving into (well, not literally) the Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

Here is what Michter's themselves say about their bourbon:

[The bourbon is matured] with barrels often aging in excess of eight years. Truly “small batch,” each batch of our US 1 Bourbon is typically composed of no more than two dozen barrels, leaving no margin for “blending out” imperfection and thus necessitating excellence from every barrel.

You can buy the in Norway at NOK 747 (3957701), in Sweden at SEK 649 (86732) or SEK 979 (yeah, same product, two very different prices), or online in the UK at just above GBP 50.

Nose: It starts off as a bit softer than the Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye. More vanilla, mild fruit notes, even a touch of strawberries. It does have a little spiciness, but it is kept more in the background really. Corn sweetness, and mild honey. No perfume here - and I like it that way!

Taste: Rich and kind of burly in character. Banana and pepper, but no banana pepper. Soft mouthfeel. Creamy vanilla and rich caramel.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Still creamy, and lots of vanilla and caramel. The spices have now faded away.

Comments: I think this is a very solid entry level bourbon. I actually prefer this slightly over the rye, which was a bit of a surprise to me.

Score (86/100)
