Five different types of casks were used in the creation of the Macallan Edition No. 5:
1st fill American oak bourbon barrels
2nd fill American oak hogsheads/butts
1st fill American oak Tevasa hogsheads/butts
1st fill American oak Vasyma butts
1st fill American oak Hudosa hogsheads/butts
Tevasa, Vasyma and Hodosa are all Spanish cooperages that Macallan have been working with for years to get quality sherry seasoned casks. See the official info here.

Nose: Dark and mysterious. Sugary and malty. Orchard fruits. Earthy oak, if that makes sense. Dry and dark chocolate. With time cool notes of coffee mix with the dark chocolate and create cocoa coolness.
Taste: Rich and full bodied. Peppery with a bitter-ish twist. Puffs of perfume. Oaky.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Dry and oaky. Still with a bitter-ish sting, but I’m not sure I mind. Green towards the end, and a snow white sugar cube.
Comment: Divine nose, and a somewhat bitter palate.
