The annual Distillers Edition of Lagavulin is out now. It has been double Matured in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Distilled 2006, and bottled 2021-09-24.

Nose: Caramel, toasted oak, wood smoke and hints of bacon. A somewhat shy nose. With time more fruits and a richer smokiness. Leather, raisins and hints of tobacco as well now.

Taste: Medium to light body. Hardly any sweetness up front. Dry notes of coffee and caramel ashes. Earthy nutmeg and cinnamon. Ripe, red berries.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Black and white pepper. Ginger, aniseed and raw bacon. Dry all the way. Dried fruits and exotic spices. Chocolate and blackberry jam. A rather green herbal finish.

Comment: A little underwhelming really, but still good.
