The Kininvie 17 YO Batch 001 is a Travel retail exclusive from the 'hidden distillery' that is located more or less in the backyard of Balvenie Distillery. This whisky consists of single malt where 80% has been matured in 1st fill ex-bourbon casks, and 20 % in sherry Oloroso casks. Batch 002 is on its way out to the market these days. The first batch was released back in July 2013.

Nose (22/25): Rich and mellow nose. Vanilla, marshmallows and a nice 'candy store' feel. Rich fruity notes, mainly fresh and ripe apples and a touch of tropical fruits, but also hints of dried fruit dusted with powdered sugar. Mild floral notes play in the background. It does need a bit of time in the glass, as somewhat shy.

Taste (21/25): A bit thin on the mouthfeel. The vanilla and fruits (much like on the nose) are now joined by a veil of soft spices. Mainly white pepper, but also a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Finish (21/25): Medium long finish. Milk chocolate, green apples, runny honey, and butterscotch.

Balance (22/25): A well-balanced whisky, that offers a god mix of sweetness and fruity notes.
