Kilkerran 12 YO

The young Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown just recently released their first ever 12 year old whisky, the Kilkerran 12 YO. This whisky has been matured in 70 % ex-bourbon casks and 30 % ex-sherry casks. Kilkerran 12 YO was distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2016.

You can pick up a bottle of Kilkerran 12 YO in Norway at NOK 629 (6831001), in Sweden at SEK 562 (8971801), and in the UK(GBP 35).

Nose: Fresh and dusty at the same time. Ripe apples and pears, ginger, hints of citrus. Something robust about it - almost earthy, but not quite. Vanilla and powdered sugar. The bourbon casks are very much dominating on the nose.

Taste: Rich and full mouthfeel. Honey and apples. Hints of dried fruits now, and a heavier sweetness. The sherry casks also making their presence known. There's some citrus notes here as well.

Finish: Medium long finish. The citrus keeps developing - light notes of lime and lemon peel. Rich and honey sweet all the way home.

Comments: A very solid whisky. Hurrah! Kilkerran is 12 YO.

Score (87/100)
