Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt - Release #9, NAS, 56.6 %

This is release number 9 in the Rye Malt series from Finnish distillery Helsinki Distilling Company. The Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt - Release #9 is an exclusive for Viking Line. It was matured in American virgin oak casks before it was given a finish in an Oloroso sherry cask.The total outturn was a mere 60 bottles.

The mash bill is as usual from HDCO 70 % rye and 30 % barley.

Nose: White pepper, vanilla and sweet sawdust. With time freshly cracked black pepper - almost enough to make me sneeze. A hint of rubber tubing. Lemon and honey cake.

Taste: Full bodied with a raw-ish and sweet mouthfeel. Pepper and ginger. Summer fruits in the background.

Finish: Medium long finish. Remains quite peppery all the way. Honey, with a floral character. Ginger, licorice and a touch of menthol.

Comment: A strange myste-rye. I believe I like it.
