Rum is a great alternative to whisky, in my humble opinion. Especially these days when single malt whisky seems to be getting both younger and more expensive by the day.

The rum in question is produced in Jamaica and has been matured in what I assume to be ex-bourbon barrels for 10 years.

The Habitation Velier Worthy Park Jamaica Pure Single Rum 2007 is labelled with the abbreviation WPL, which signifies it has been produced according to receipt Worthy Park Light. Light here refers to the level of esters. Jamaican rum is generally known as high ester rum. If I am to simplify, and I think I should right now, then I can tell you that esters contribute fruitiness and funkiness.

The Habitation Velier Worthy Park Jamaica Pure Single Rum 2007 will be available to buy in Norway on Friday this week at NOK 1400 (11059301).

Nose: Mixed spices, and a generally warm and cosy feel. Various fruits, both fresh and dried. Notes of tropical fruits as well. Brown sugar and vanilla, and a mild whiff of funkiness.

Taste: Rich and full.bodied. Well balanced, and no alcohol sting at all. Lots of spices, more so than what the nose promised. Spicy caramel puidding with a mixed fruit salad on the side.

Finish: Long finish. The sweetness turns darker with time, and a hint of funkiness can be detected.

Comment: Flirting with funk!
