Glenrothes 2006 10 YO, 57.3 %

Glenrothes 2006 10 YOThis is a single cask release by the independent bottler Creative Whisky Company, bottled for The Good Spirits Co. - a wonderful whisky shop in Glasgow, Scotland.

The whisky was distilled in 2006, matured in a sherry cask, and bottled in 2016. The total outturn was 150 bottles.

For some reason I have not tried many whiskies from Glenrothes. In fact I have only written two reviews of Glenrothes here on Whisky Saga, one back in 2013 and one in 2015.

Nose: Cool and a bit dusty. Oak, raisins and figs. Deep and dark noes of red berries. It is almost like nosing a heavy, Italian red wine. Comes across as very solid and well integrated.

Taste: Full-bodied. Black peppercorns! Quite spicy overall. Fruity, with apples in addition to the dried and sherry infused fruits. Lovely mouth-coating honey-like sweetness.

Finish: Medium long finish. A touch more oak now. A touch bitter as well. The sweetness dissipates first, then the fruit dies away and the oakiness is all we are left with.

Comments: The best Glenrothes I have had, as far as I can recall.
