Glengoyne 20 YO The Marius Cask

I recently had the fortune to try this Glengoyne whisky bottled exclusively for Norway. It is a single cask, bottled at cask strength. The Glengoyne 20 YO The Marius Cask has been matured in an American oak sherry hogshead (cask# 1387 - The Marius cask). It was  distilled 1998-04-22, and bottled in June 2018, with a total outturn of 255 bottles.

The name is taken from the CEO of the Norwegian importer of Glengoyne (Marius Vestnes at Cask Norway).

The Glengoyne 20 YO The Marius Cask is available to buy in Norway (only) at NOK 4000 (10462801).

Nose: Rich and complex, deep and delightful sherry notes. Dried fruits, with dates and figs at the front. Juicy sweetness. Caramel, cinnamon and cardamom. With time a hint of citrus.

Taste: Very rich and full bodied, if not down right fat. Figs still, but now also raisins. Raisins dipped in PX sherry and white pepper and crushed assorted nuts, to be more precise. This is dark and ominous in cozy sort of way. Some oak and ripe oranges.

Finish: Long finish. The dark sweetness keeps getting darker and deeper. Drier now. An edge of burnt toast with orange marmalade towards the end.

Comments: Just wow!
