Glengoyne 15 YO, 43 %

Glengoyne 15 YOThe dram of the day is the Glengoyne 15 YO. While most Glengoyne whiskies are matured exclusively in sherry casks (1st fill and refill), the 15 YO and the 12 YO have a portion of 1st fill ex-bourbon casks used. The Glengoyne 15 YO has been created using whisky matured in 30% 1st fill American Oak bourbon casks, 20% 1st Fill European Oak sherry casks, and 50% refill casks.

Using ex-bourbon casks is a bit rare for Glengoyne. In fact, from what I have been told only about 5 % of the casks they have on stock are bourbon casks.

The Glengoyne 15 YO is available to buy in Norway at NOK 695 (280201), in Sweden at SEK 599 (8563601), and online in the UK at around GBP 37.

Nose (21/25): Soft and delicate - on the shy side. Seems to have a nice balance between the sherry and bourbon influence. There's dark and candied fruits, as well as vanilla and soft caramel notes. Slightly nutty.

Taste (22/25): Rich and full mouthfeel. A bit oily. Vanilla, nuts, honey and a pinch of pepper.

Finish (22/25): The nuts now morph into more oaky notes. The sweetness is ever present - warm and soft. Quite long finish. Spice and honey.

Balance (22/25): Somewhat shy on the nose, but otherwise a delightful dram.

Score (87/100)
