Glenfarclas 40 YO

Glenfarclas 40 YO, 43 %

glenfarclas-40-yo.jpg

The Glenfarclas 40 YO is the oldest product in the core range at Glenfarclas. Not many distilleries even have such an old product in their core product line-up. The Glenfarclas 40 YO is entirely matured in sherry casks. It was previously bottled at 46 % ABV, but the current version is bottled at 43 % ABV.

The official product page can be found here.

The Glenfarclas 40 YO is unfortunately (but I guess - naturally) a costly affair. You can get a bottle in Norway starting June 4 at NOK 7990 (286301).

Nose: Leather, caramel and a dusty attic in an old wooden house. Dried fruits. Sun warmed and safe. Hints of chocolate and coffee in the background.

Taste: Medium body. Plenty of red berries upfront. Sweet and juicy as well as presenting the slightest touch of bitterness - think Rowanberries. Light sherry notes white pepper and vanilla. Easy going, positively light on its feet considering the age.

Finish: Long finish. Soft notes of leather and dried fruits. Feels a bit cognac like towards the end - caramel, oak, and deep fruity notes.

Comment: Rock solid in a very friendly way.

Score 92/100
