My last review of a Fary Lochan release for a while, but I certainly plan for there to be more down the line. This Fary Lochan Virtuel Edition Batch #4 - Smoke & Rum was distilled 2013-08-07, and bottled 2021-08-23 (released for sale 2021-09-17 for Fary Lochan’s fourth virtual tasting online). Limited to 355 (50 cl) bottles.

It was initially matured for 6 years and 6 months in a single 1st fill bourbon barrel, then finished for 18 months in a single 2nd fill rum cask.

The Fary Lochan Virtuel Edition Batch #04 - Smoke & Rum appears to still be available to buy from the distillery directly at DKK 995.

Nose: Soft and delicate. Rhubarb, wet leaves, white sugar, rich malt and chocolate. With time also hints of citrus and toasted marshmallows. It keeps developing very nicely. A lovely nose.

Taste: Full bodied as a Coca-Cola Santa. Wood smoke, soot, and dry-ish notes of chocolate. Softly floral, and quite fruity.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Much as it started really, just more and softer at the same time. Simple syrup and floral honey. Creamy vanilla. Rhubarb and again the wet leaves from the nose.

Comment: A perfect Autumn afternoon in a bottle. Super charming.
