My first ever whisky from the independent bottler Global Whisky Limited and their The Red Cask CO. Series. Dailuaine Distillery is located in the Speyside region.

This whisky was distilled 2012-04-02, “partly matured” in a single 1st fill ex-Oloroso sherry hogshead (cask #305576). Limited to 233 bottles.

Available to buy in Norway at NOK 1789 (14868701).

Nose: Big, bold fruity aromas. Some oaky astringency. Nuts and earthy cinnamon. It has a wintery feel to it. With time peppery notes and more nuts - almonds and hazelnuts.

Taste: Big and rich mouthfeel. Rather spicy and oaky. Certainly an active hogshead at work here. The tannins are borderline aggressive. Dry and peppery. Orange zest and marzipan.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Not as oaky now. More orange zest as well as orange juice. Dark chocolate and ashes. Sugary sweetness does make for a more light hearted finish.

Comment: This is a whisky that slams the doors more than sneak around on tiptoes. Big sherry notes and oaky flavors.
