Caperdonich 1996 18 YO Blackadder Raw Cask, 50,2 %

Caperdonich 1996 18 YO Blackadder Raw CaskOn Cinderella Whisky Fair 2015 I got a chance to taste a new Caperdonich. This was a new bottling from the independent bottler Blackadder.

Caperdonich distillery was located in Speyside in Scotland, but it was closed in 2010. Todays whisky was distilled 16th May 1996 and bottled in July 2014. It has matured in a bourbon hogshead #82239. I tasted from bottle 157 of 318.

Caperdonich 1996 18 YO Blackadder Raw Cask is unfortunately not available in Norway (yet?), but you can buy it in Sweden at SEK 1 341 (item number 84482).

Nose (22/25): Lots of vanilla. Sweet, delicate and rich. Citrus. Some baked apples as well.

Taste (23/25): Again: Lot of vanilla. Still sweet, delicate and rich. Citrus, mostly lime. Fresh.

Finish (24/25): Wow! One of the best finishes I have experienced in a while. Really rich and lingering. Oily. Vanilla and lime zest in perfect combination. Sweet and fresh at the same time.

Balance (23/25): Well, this was an elegant whisky, well-balanced and rich. I would say this was a typical bourbon matured whisky. Although this was not a first-fill bourbon cask, the cask must have been quite active since it gave so much bourbon notes.

Score (92/100)
