In November 2017 Bruichladdich announced their Rare Cask Series - three bottlings of old and rare whisky from the Islay distillery. I have now tasted the Bruichladdich Rare Cask Series 1985/32, and here is the official blurb:

The 1985 comes from the final 22 casks of legacy stock originally filled into gentle third fill bourbon casks that lay untouched until 2012 when it was re-casked into fresh Bourbon before a final coup de grace in French oak from one of the greatest French chateaux.

You can buy the Bruichladdich Rare Cask Series 1985/32 in Norway at NOK 6 200 (10635601). It appears to be largely sold out in the rest of the world by now.

Nose: Caramel pudding, of the home made kind. Slightly burnt caramel. Fruity with lots of red berries. Nuts. Earthy with hints of asparagus and root vegetables. A touch of toasted oak. Lovely!

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Quite sweet; vanilla and light tropical fruit notes. Toasted oak. Vegetable notes in the back. Coffee and golden syrup. Light spiciness.

Finish: Very long finish. The sweetness is darker now; maple syrup. Dry-ish and warm in character.

Comment: A complex and big dram. If only I had a bottle!

Score 92/100
