Brora 1975 20 YO Rare Malts, 54,9 %

Brora 1975 20 YO Rare MaltsI have not tasted many Broras. Todays whisky will actually be number five on my list, and definitely the youngest one! Brora 1975 Rare Malts is 'only' 20 YO.

Brora distillery was closed in 1983, so I guess I will not get the opportunity to taste that many Broras before the stock is gone. The stock of Brora is owned by Diageo. The Rare Malts is one of Diageo's bottling series.

The 1975 Rare Malts was, of course, distilled in 1975 and bottled in 1995.

Nose (22/25): Nice nose! Some oakiness at first, but soon fresh citrus notes appeared. It smelled a bit like melted butter, which is not a smell I often detect in whisky. Sweet (fudge) and salt. I guess I should have noticed some smoke, but I did not.

Taste (21/25): The taste was very salty, I think.  This was a light and fruity whisky, with ginger and white pepper. A gentle smoke. Sparkling mouth feel.

Finish (21/25): Oily in the end. I found nuts, nutmeg and white pepper. After a while the salt was back again. Quite dry.

Balance (21/25): This was a light and fresh whisky, and it was a good whisky. Too much salt to my taste, to get at higher score.

Score (85/100)
