Bivrost Helheim Arctic Single Malt Whisky

Bivrost Helheim Arctic Single Malt Whisky, NAS, 46 %

Bivrost Helheim is the sixth whisky in the “nine worlds of Norse mythology” Series from Norwegian distillery Aurora Spirit. It was released on November 2, 2022. Produced using Pilsener Malt, made from Planet and Popino Nordic barley, and distilled 2018 and 2019. Matured in a combination of crocodile charred casks and ex-Islay casks, both quarter casks and 200 litre casks. Limited to 3389 bottles.

This whisky is already sold out. Aurora Spirit / Bivrost has a large and active fan base already.

Nose: A very appealing nose presenting a balanced mix of leather, chocolate, earthy vanilla and toasted oak.

Taste: Medium body and a feisty spiciness up front. It comes across as fairly smoked (not peated) on the first wave, then it mellows out and I get juicy notes of orchard fruits. Black and white pepper and oaky spiciness.

Finish: Medium long finish. A bit drier now. Still rather sweet. The spices have more or less left, and the smokiness has morphed into notes of dark chocolate and leather.

Comment: Not quite as devilish as the label, but feisty and full of character.

Score 86/100
