Two years ago I reviewed batch 1 of the BenRiach Peated Cask Strength (see review). Now I have had a chance to try BenRiach Peated Cask Strength Batch 2.

This whisky has been matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry casks. The peat used is from the Scottish highlands.

You can buy the BenRiach Peated Cask Strength Batch 2 in Norway starting June 4 at NOK 999 (1968101).

Nose: Dry and earthy wood smoke - soft and not overwhelming. Vanilla, mild caramel and orchard fruits, not a whole lot more. It is clean though, and has a nice sweetness to it.

Taste: Medium body and insistent peatiness. Ginger and white pepper. Licorice and chocolate in the back.

Finish: Medium long finish. Licorice and cut grass now, with the earthy wood smoke.

Comment: Very similar to batch 1 - and again a solid dram.

Score 86/100
