The dram of the day is a peated 30 year old whisky from BenRiach. This whisky was released as part of Batch 13 of the very popular single cask bottlings from this distillery. The BenRiach 1986 30 YO (cask #3183) has been finished (at least I believe it is a finish and not a full maturation) in a Pedro Ximenez hogshead.

This whisky was distilled on 1986-03-19, and then bottled on 2016-06-01, with a total outturn of 307 bottles.

Nose: Pepper, chocolate, ashes and vanilla. This is powerful and potent stuff. I also pick up red berries, vanilla and fresh herbal notes. The peatiness is not just manifested as ashes, there's also an earthy smokiness. Nice nutty naughtiness nibbling my nose.

Taste: Rich and somewhat raw mouthfeel. Very spicy upfront. Pepper, chili, raw ginger and cinnamon stick. Red, rich berries. Dry-ish oakiness.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Dried fruits and warm ashes. Just the perfect touch of oakiness.

Comments: A dreamy dram. I want this to just last forever.
