Amrut Peated

Amrut Peated, NAS, 46 %

I have to set nose and tongue to Amrut Peated, another core range product from pioneering distillery in India; Amrut Distilleries.

I cannot really find any facts on this product, except for the ABV of 46 % and that it has been matured in oak casks.

A bottle of Amrut Peated will set you back NOK 799 (775001). You can also buy it in Sweden at SEK 698 (577201), and in the UK at around GBP 57.

Nose: Chocolate caramel. Dark, dry and oaky. Dry wood smoke.

Taste: Medium body and somewhat dry in character on the palate as well. Determined and insistent black smoke. Peppery ashes. Quite a lot more peaty on the palate actually. Citrus in the back. Sweet.

Finish: Medium long finish. Even sweeter now: various sugars come and go in waves - demerara, white sugar and molasses (although no molasses was used in the production of this fine single malt!). Wood smoke and soft oakiness.

Comment: A solid, peaty dram.
