Aberlour-Glenlivet 1989 23 YO Cadenhead Small BatchToday I present my review of a new small batch release from Cadenhead. It is the Aberlour-Glenlivet 1989 23 YO. This is another of Mark Watt's new expressions. He has had a very good hand with the new releases from Cadenhead over the past couple of years. You rarely go wrong if you select a whisky from their small batch series. They are all cask strength, and the batches are truly small. Typically 1-4 barrels go into a batch.

It was distilled 1989-09-27, and bottled in 2013. It will be released in Norway in May 2014, at a cost of NOK 1300.

Nose (22/25): Refined and delicate. Milk chocolate, mild chili, and lots of fruit (banana and orange). More vanilla after a few minutes.

Taste (21/25): Well-matured, rich but tempered. It's almost shy. I find caramel, apples, oranges, malt and some ginger.

Finish (22/25): I love the mouth feel here, it's velvety. Caramel and fruit. Medium long

Balance (22/25): A really nice Aberlour. Clean, and tasty. There is not that much influence from the casks here, I think.

Score (87/100)
