Benrinnes 15 YO Flora & Fauna, 43 %

Benrinnes 15 YO Flora & FaunaToday I am back with yet another whisky from a distillery I do not know much about. So far I have only tasted three Benrinnes.

This Benrinnes 15 YO is released as a part of the Flora & Fauna series from Diageo. Most of the whiskies in these bottling series is watered down to 43 %. Earlier I have shared my tasting notes on Caol Ila 15 YO and Linkwood 12 YO from the same series.

The whisky is available online for about GBP 50.

Nose (19/25): I was met by hay and grass. Then household garbage! Not a very promising start, but luckily it got better. After a while different types of berries came through; blackcurrant and gooseberries.

Taste (20/25): The mouthfeel was quite thin and watery. Some sweetness. Banana, I think. The taste had some 'bite' to it, and not in a positive way.

Finish (20/25): In the end the taste was dominated by burnt caramel. Still thin and watery.

Balance (20/25): The whisky improved somewhat after I heated the glass in my hands. Apart from that, I think this Benrinnes joins my earlier experience with Flora & Fauna. I have been told that Flora & Fauna whiskies bottled at cask strength can be real good. Unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of tasting one, yet.

Score (79/100)
