BenRiach 10 YO

BenRiach 10 YO

This whisky is a major milestone for the current owners of BenRiach Distillery. Finally they can launch a 10 YO whisky predominantly with spirit distilled under the new owners. It is matured in bourbon and sherry casks.

I'm stealing a snippet from Master of Malt here, as they quote Sales Director Alistair Walker at BenRiach:

"We have, effectively, been working towards this single moment since we acquired BenRiach Distillery and the 10 Years Old expression will become the cornerstone of our range."

The BenRiach was launched in April 2015. You can buy it in Norway at NOK 675 (item number 2391601), in Sweden at SEK 449 (item number 8588601), and in the UK at around GBP 26.

Nose (23/25): Soft sherry notes with dried fruits mix very well with fresher fruits - mainly green apple, lemon and lime. Vanilla, caramel, white pepper and a touch of malt. Warm and cozy nose. The complex symphony of fruits gets better and better with time in the glass.

Taste (21/25): Smooth and relatively rich for an ABV of 43 %. Fruity and fizzy. Apple, lime, ginger, caramel and hints of Prosecco.

Finish (21/25): Rich and warm finish with tons of fruit, honey, white sugar and malt. There's a bit of licorice and caramel.

Balance (21/25): This is very good quality, and at a very decent price.

Score (86/100)
