Auchnagie Classic Selection - The Lost DistilleryThis is another of the re-constructed lost distillery whiskies from The Lost Distillery Company. Auchnagie is a Highland whisky, and we have previously reviewed the slightly older Auchnagie Deluxe.

The Auchnagie Classic Selection is a new whisky in the entry level series 'Classic Selection' from The Lost Distillery Company. For each distillery in their range there will now be tree variants; the oldest is called Vintage, then we have the Archivists Selection, and finally the Classic Selection.

You can find a lot more historical data and anecdotes on the old Auchnagie Distillery here.

Nose (22/25): Light and rich at the same time. Lots of fruits, summer fruits - apples and pears. More fruits are added to the mix as time passes - mango, honey melon and possible also apricots. A slight waxiness builds body. The nose bears more than a passing resemblance to a teenage Clynelish. A hint of fresh licorice in the background.

Taste (21/25): Quite rich and full-bodied. I am surprised at how full it is at 43 % ABV. There's a sweet summer fruitiness here as well, but it is milder and more laid back than on the nose. Delicate honey, caramel and vanilla notes bring more sweetness. On later sips there is pepper and a sprinkling of ginger.

Finish (21/25): Relatively short. A finish similar to what you get after eating short bread. Still sweet and pleasant.

Balance (21/25): A light dram for lazy summer afternoons.
